About Janah
Mohamed Ali Janah, son of Late Ali Hussain and Fathimath Hameeda, of H. Sea Side, Male’, Maldives is a Maldivian national who has been serving in the construction industry of the Maldives for the past 30 years. He currently lives in Maldives while his three children, Ayesha Nurain Janah, Khadhyja Naushyn Janah and Ahmed Jasim Janah, live in New Zealand since they moved to pursue their studies, each of them successfully following their parents’ footsteps to become influential youth.
After a brief tenure in the United States and Philippines, Janah returned to Maldives in 1987 to take over his parents’ business Alysen Services Pvt Ltd and started his career in the industry.
Starting with simple projects, he now handles turnkey major projects and has up to now worked on over 52 resort projects. He registered his own company, with one of his brothers, Hussain Ali Sinan, in 2007 and now the company provides all the services required for a resort / hotel / building construction project including its own in-house design team. He and the team has completed well known resorts in the hospitality industry including Soneva Fushi, Soneva Gili, Four Seasons Kuda Huraa and Shangrila’s Villingili Resort. He was the CEO of GA. Kooddoo Domestic Airport. He is also the Honorary Advisor to Pristine Maldives that is currently developing GA. Maamutaa and the ongoing GA. Kooddoo airport expansion project, GA. Kooddoo Airport Hotel project and managing the domestic GA. Kooddoo airport. He is also a partner in Ithaafushi Investments, that developed Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi in Kaafu atoll. Janah was also the Chairman of the Maldives Building and Construction Board and a board member of the Maldives Monetary Authority.
To extend his knowledge and experience to help the construction industry he has been one of the key people in the Maldives National Association for Construction Industry –MNACI, and has served as MNACI’s president for over 6 tenures combined. On October 12th 2021 he was re-elected as the president of MNACI. His effort was one of the reasons why Maldives was accepted into the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Associations-IFAWPCA and he is currently serving as their President after taking his oath as the President of IFAWPCA on November 2018. Additionally he is also the President of National Federation of Maldivian Employers-NFME.
Janah is well known in Doha for the Banana Island Project that was opened in 2015. Not only in Doha, he is a well-known person in the Maldives as well, with a strong presence in the media. He has his own TV channel that is currently in the rebranding stage, and had an online news company that has now been cancelled. He is well known for his generosity and loves donating for the CSR projects carried out by the government.
Janah has been awarded the National Award of Recognition in the area of Architecture, Construction and Consultancy by the Government of Maldives in November 2017. In 2018 December Janah was awarded "Entrepreneur of the Year 2018" by Maldives Business Awards. In September 2021, Mr. Janah was appointed as the Honorary Consul of Hungary in the Maldives.
